Receiving the sacrament of Confirmation does NOT mean one is "choosing to be Catholic". We become Catholic through the sacrament of Baptism. Through Confirmation, we become fully initiated members of the "working body of Christ", by, through the gifts of the Holy Spirit, conferred through the sacrament of Confirmation (Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Counsel, Fortitude, Piety, Awe & Wonder)
Receiving the sacrament of Confirmation is NOT a "graduation" from religious education. On the contrary, through the sacrament, we are commanded by Christ to "go in peace, to love and serve the Lord". It is a transition of our faith - from having a 'passive' faith to having an 'active' faith.
