Preparation for receiving the Eucharist begins in the first
grade and continues through second grade; however, preparation
to receive the sacrament is ultimately the parents' responsibility.
Essential Conditions for the Reception of First Communion
It is necessary that a child:
Parent's Responsibility
Parents are required to attend the First Communion parent
meeting. This meeting will provide parents with information
on how to help prepare their child for this sacrament. They
will also receive a home study book that will help their child
for the worthy reception of this sacrament.
Materials and instructions will be provided for parents
to work at home with their child, to ensure that their child
will be ready for this spiritual milestone.
Checklist for First Communion
Parents must:
- Bring child's baptismal certificate by the CM office.
- Attend the First Communion meeting.
- Sign up for First Communion Mass
- Help prepare their child for First Communion by doing
the "At-Home" study program.
- Attend weekly Mass with their child.
Children must:
- Be baptized
- Be faithful in attending Religious Education classes or
attending a Catholic school where religion is taught daily.
- Have completed the "At-Home" study program.
- Attend First Communion workshop
- Attend Mass.
Parents and children are encouraged to attend the First Communion
workshop.
First Communion Workshop
The workshop will include an instructed Mass and video. We
invite at least one parent to attend this workshop with their
child. No siblings would be appreciated because of the large
number of First Communicants in attendance.
First Communion Banner-Making Day
The banners are a special remembrance of a very important
event in your child's faith life. We invite one parent to
attend religious education with their child on their regular
class day:
