Questions About Baptism

1. How to prepare for Baptism of a child between the ages of 0 and 6 years:

Parents must be members of a Catholic parish and attend Baptismal classes. Contact the main church office (ext. 0) for information on how to sign up for classes. Parents who are not members of St. Jude must have a "Permission to Baptize/Good Standing" letter from their home parish. If parents have already attended a Baptism class it is not necessary that they repeat the class again.

2. How to prepare for Baptism of a child that is at least 7 years of age but has not completed the 6th grade:

Parents must be members of St. Jude Parish. The child must attend regular, weekly religious education classes and attend six sacrament preparation classes offered on Monday evenings at 7pm. Three six week sessions are offered during the year. Parents must contact the Children's Ministries office (ext. 2225) for specific information. Any person over the age of 7 years who receives the Sacrament of Baptism will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation at the same time according to Church Doctrine. Students will also be required to attend Confirmation classes when they reach the 10th grade in order to gain a deeper understanding of the sacraments they received.

3. How to prepare for Baptism if the student is in the 7th or 8th grade:

The family must be a member of St. Jude Parish. The student must attend the St. Jude youth program for his/her age. Six sacrament classes covering the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, Reconciliation and Confirmation must also be completed by the student with the support of parents and staff. All four sacraments will be conferred at the end of the six weeks but students will also be required to attend Confirmation classes when they reach the 10th grade in order to gain a deeper understanding of the sacraments they received. Sessions run twice a year, once in fall and once in spring but students may start at any time. Contact the youth office (ext. 2217) for more information.

4. How to prepare for Baptism if a student is in the 9th-12th grade:

The family must be a member of St. Jude Parish or the student must be a member with the parent's permission. The student must attend the High School religious education program for his/her age. The student must attend the high school Confirmation classes where the student will prepare to receive Baptism, Eucharist, Reconciliation and Confirmation. All four sacraments will be conferred either at the Easter Vigil or at the Confirmation Ceremony. Contact the youth office (ext. 2217) for more information.
