A Sacrament of Initiation

Preparation for receiving the Eucharist begins in the first grade, and continues through second grade; however, preparation to receive the sacrament is ultimately the parents' responsibility.

Essential Conditions for the Reception of First Eucharist It is necessary that a child:

Believe that the Eucharist IS TRULY the BODY and BLOOD of Jesus, and have a DESIRE to receive Him.

Checklist for First Eucharist

Parents must:

Attend Saturday or Sunday Mass with their child every week.
Bring child's Baptismal certificate by the CM office.
Attend (one parent) one of the First Eucharist meeting planned in February.
Help prepare their child for First Eucharist by doing the "At-Home" study program. (The “At home” activities come from the book, The Gift of Eucharist, published by Silver, Burdett and Ginn)
Attend (one parent) the First Eucharist Retreat with your child.
Sign-up for a First Eucharist Mass.

Children must:

Attend Mass on Saturday or Sunday
Be Baptized.
Be faithful in attending Religious Education classes or attending a Catholic school where religion is taught daily.
Complete the “At Home” study given at the parent meeting. (The “At home” activities come from the book, The Gift of Eucharist, published by Silver, Burdett and Ginn)
Attend the First Eucharist Retreat

Parent Information Meeting
Choose one of the following Parent's Only Meetings:

February 21, 2008 at 7:00pm-8:30pm
February 17, 2008 at 1:30pm-3:00pm

Only one parent needs to attend this meeting, but childcare is offered by reservation only. Please contact Sue Hawthorne for the nursery.

Children's First Eucharist Retreat
Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 8:00am-12:00noon

Children's First Eucharist Celebrations
Saturday, May 10h and Saturday, May 17th. Classes TBA
