Jesus Falls the First Time
under the Weight of the Cross
Kneel
Presider:
We adore you, O Christ, and we praise
you.
All:
Because by your holy cross you have
redeemed the world.
Arise
Presider:
Bowed down under the weight of the Cross,
Jesus slowly sets forth on the way to Calvary, amidst
the mockeries and insults of the crowd. His agony in
the garden has exhausted his body, he is sore with blows
and wounds; his strength fails him, he falls to the
ground under the Cross.
| |
O Jesus, who for our sins bore the
heavy burden of the cross and under its weight, may
the thought of your sufferings make us watchful over
ourselves, and save us from any grievous fall into sin.

Reader:
It was our infirmities that he bore,
our sufferings that he endured. He was pierced for our
offenses, crushed for our sins, upon him was the chastisement
that makes us whole; by his stripes we were healed.
All:
We groan while we are here, even as
we yearn to have our heavenly habitation envelope us.
All sing:
Oh, how sad and sore distressed,
Was that Mother highly blessed,
Of the sole begotten one!
